- Clinical management and directionof the ED, in conjunction with other Consultant in EM colleagues.The precise division of responsibilities between the Consultants inEM will be agreed between the Consultant, the Clinical Director andthe CEO/GM or their appropriate delegate. These responsibilitieswill be reviewed on an annualbasis.
- Responsibility for the assessment andimmediate care of all EM patients attending the ED and linkedEmergency Care Network (ECN) units. This may be deliveredpersonally or by supervision of other clinicalstaff.
- Responsibility for the care of patientsadmitted under the care of the Consultants in EM to the ED ClinicalDecision Unit / EM Observation ward or Chest Pain Assessment Unit,if available on site. This entails daily ward rounds, includingweekends, on a rostered basis and cross-cover of patient care on apre-agreed or on-call basis.
- To undertakeessential supporting duties for clinical care including, interalia, risk management, critical incident investigation andoversight of rosters.
- To ensure that duties andfunctions are undertaken in a manner that minimises delays forpatients and possible disruption of services.
