Job Title:
Winchman (Handling Cargo and Containers)


Location:
Qatar


Job Purpose (English):


To safely operate winch for the purpose of loading and unloading General Cargo and Containers to the terminal in a safe and efficient manner and in accordance to set safety guidelines.


Key Responsibilities

  • Operates winch cable to load and unload General Cargo and Containers in/out of vessel to Terminal in accordance with instructions and standard operating procedures.
  • Follow instructions given by Vessel Chargehand and signals of Signalmen for desired movement of plant when needed.
  • Coordinate the work of the crane team and the labors for best performance.
  • Participate with the Vessel Supervisor during the daily briefing and toolboxtalks.
  • Alert to sudden changes in desired movement of crane, workers in and around winch cables and lines, cable entanglements, and unusual strain on winch and winch cables, to prevent injury to personnel, cable breakage, and damage to equipment.
  • Inspect and check equipment to determine fit to operate status at the beginning of the shift to ensure the safety and readiness of the vehicle.
  • Recognize technical malfunctions of equipment and report it to Vessel Chargehand or coordinate repair of equipment to ensure that the winch is operating effectively.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Equipment driving license to operate cranes.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in port operations with at least 2 years in a similar position.

  • Good understanding of Qatar and GCC culture and working environment.

Pay:
Up to QAR2,200.00 per month
