The purpose of this role is to undertake postgraduate rotational training through the main parts of the pharmacy service [Patient / Clinical / Technical and Quality Assurance (P/C/T/QA) services].

Accountable for their own work, at the end of a successful rotation they will be confirmed as competent in all areas of the pharmacy and ready to take on more specialist responsibilities within the pharmacy.

The responsibilities of this position will increase as they acquire more skills and experience.

At the end of a successful rotation, the Junior Pharmacist will consistently demonstrate competence or exceed the performance expected of an entry to practice pharmacist [see HMC Pharmacist competence framework] in each section / area that they work.

A Pharmacist rotation would normally take 18-24 months to complete.


Key Accountabilities

1. Medicine Distribution

  • Understand and adhere to Qatar Medicine laws and regulations
  • Take legal responsibility for the professional standard of their own work ensuring that medicines are dispensed to inpatients and outpatients in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Always demonstrates personal accuracy when dispensing and when checking the work of others in a wide range of settings (inpatients, outpatient, controlled drugs, extemporaneous preparation and IV preparation).
  • Monitor the storage and utilisation of medicines in the stores, dispensary and on the wards to ensure efficient use.

2. Patient care

  • Verify physician orders against the known medication profile of a patient
  • Identify and resolve problems with medication orders
  • Clarify the medication profile though the use of the medical record (paper and electronic) and direct questioning of the doctor and patient or their carer.
  • Monitor medication effectiveness by review of the medical record and direct questioning of the patient or their carer.

3. Medicines information

  • Counsel patients and their carers on the effective use of their medicines.
  • Accurately identify information needs and meets those needs accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Effective use of readily available reference sources (paper and electronic) to support their recommendations to physicians.

4. Continuing professional development
In addition to undertaking the rotational training at this HMC facility a Junior Pharmacist is expected to maintain

the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements (e.g. Credit Hours) for maintaining a Pharmacist license in the state of Qatar or the HMC requirements if these are higher.


5. Teamwork and Professional Collaboration

  • As their competence is confirmed they can participate in the pharmacy shift and oncall system for their facility
  • Throughout the residency programme the Junior Pharmacist is expected to demonstrate strong teamwork and an ability to work effectively with people of different professions and at different levels.

6. Management and leadership


At the discretion of the supervisor, Junior Pharmacists will be expected to effectively demonstrate supervision of technicians, ancillary staff and students.


7. Perform other duties as assigned

Essential Job Requirements

Education
Bachelor Degree in Pharmacy from recognised Program.


Experience
1 year pharmacy experience


License to Practice (DHP)
**_Department of Healthcare Professions_

Valid Primary license from the country of origin (if applicable) AND should be eligible for

license from the Licensing authority in the State of Qatar to practice Healthcare

Profession.
