Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical safety and emergency equipment is in good working order
  • Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions following signals from loading crew and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned.
  • Collect delivery instructions from appropriate sources verifying instruction and routes.
  • Report vehicle defects accidents, traffic violations or damage to the vehicles.
  • Secure cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers.
  • Drive trucks to weigh stations before and after loading and along routes to document weights and to comply with state regulation
  • Obtain customer's acknowledgement/signature on trip ticket upon delivering consignment.
  • Inventory and inspect goods to be moved to determine quantities and conditions.
  • Follow appropriate safety procedures for transporting dangerous goods.
  • Communicate and exchange necessary information with operations office, supervisor or other drivers.
  • Perform basis vehicle maintenance tasks, such as adding oil, fuel, or radiator fluid or performing minor repairs
  • Check conditions of trailers after contents have been unloaded to ensure that there has been no damage.
  • Couple or uncouple trailers by changing trailer jack positions, connecting or disconnecting air or electrical lines, or manipulating fifthwheel locks.
  • Check all loadrelated documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate.
  • Read and interpret maps to determine vehicle routes.
  • Crank trailer landing gear up or down to safely secure vehicles.
  • Follow special cargorelated procedures.
  • Load and unload trucks, or help others with loading and unloading, operating any special loadingrelated equipment on vehicles and using other equipment as necessary.
  • Wrap goods using pads, packing paper, and containers, and secure loads to trailer walls, using straps.
  • Climb ladders to inspect loads, ensuring that cargo is secure. Remove debris from loaded trailers.
  • Give directions to laborers who are packing goods and moving them onto trailers.
  • Perform emergency roadside repairs, such as changing tires or installing light bulbs, tire chains, or spark plugs.
  • Collaborate with other drivers as part of a driving team on some trips.
  • Place empty carts and pallets in trailers so they will be available to facilitate placement and movement of goods.
  • Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
  • Follow specified systems, processes and procedures, implemented in the workplace, to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and other requirements/standards
  • Work safely at all times, protecting the health and safety of everyone in the workplace

Qualifications

Education & Professional Qualification:

Secondary School Education

Valid Qatar Heavy and Light Drivers' License

Defensive Driving Certificate

Dangerous Goods Transportation Certificate


Professional Experience:

5 years of experience driving Heavy vehicles


Geographic Experience:

Familiar with the routes & roads in Qatar


Computer Skills:

N.A.


Language Skills:

Able to communicate in English (Fair)


Market/Industry/Functional Knowledge:

Knowledge on Oil & Gas Industries (Port/Yard/ Operations)
