    NRSI is looking for a qualified individual with expertise in plant identification, leading vegetation inventories, rare vegetation assessments, and surveys of noxious weeds and invasive species within Alberta and/or Saskatchewan to join our growing team. The successful applicant will be based out of our Calgary, Alberta office and will be expected to regularly contribute to both field- and office-based tasks.

    Location: Field sites throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan Office tasks based out of our office in Calgary, AB or flexibility to work remotely

    Requirements

    Your Education:
    • A degree in Biology or Environmental Sciences. Similar educational experience will also be considered.
    Your Field Skills:
    • Excellent vegetation identification skills, including demonstrated experience leading rare vascular plant surveys and leading flora inventories in southern Alberta and/or Saskatchewan.
    • Ability to travel for regular multi-day field surveys, sometimes in remote locations, under inclement weather, in a variety of environmental conditions, and occasionally for long hours.
    • Familiarity with monitoring, analyses, and reporting expectations for vegetation inventories in Alberta and/or Saskatchewan in consideration of development applications.
    Additional Requirements:
    • Designation, or immediate eligibility, as a Professional Biologist (P.Biol.) in Alberta.
    • Valid driver s license & personal vehicle
    • Standard First Aid and CPR certification
    Assets:
    • Experience with project management, including client and agency correspondence, budget management, proposal writing, and report preparation.
    • Current designation as a Wetland Authenticating Professional and/or experience leading wetland delineations/classifications.
    • Familiarity with soil classification techniques and/or with other surveys associated with reclamation planning and assessments.
    • Experience completing surveys for wildlife in Alberta and/or Saskatchewan.

    Your Education & Certifications: A post-secondary degree or diploma. Certified Arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture OR a Registered Professional Forester with the Ontario Professional Foresters Association (Full Member). Your Field Skills: Experienced in completing tree and forest inventories & health assessments in rural and/or urban settings. Proficient in the identification of trees found in rural and urban Ontario. Willing & able to travel for regular multi-day field surveys, sometimes in remote locations, under inclement weather, in a variety of environmental conditions, or for long hours. Additional Requirements: Demonstrated experience in preparing Arborist Reports and Tree Preservation Plans. A desire and demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team. Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of work. Committed to continual improvement of technical abilities. ISA Certified Arborist OR Registered Professional Forester (Full Member of the OPA) Valid driver s license & personal vehicle Standard First Aid and CPR certification Assets: Experience surveying for herpetofauna, birds, mammals, and insects, and/or conducting vegetation inventories and delineating vegetation communities using standard survey protocols. Certifications in Ecological Land Classification (ELC) and/or the Ontario Wetland Evaluation System (OWES).
