- prepare well datasheets
- design and select well-headequipment
- draw up drilling programmes, takingaccount of desired production flow rates
- obtainrelevant data, carrying out engineering analysis on site,recommending necessary actions and writing upreports
- monitor the daily progress of welloperations
- keep track of current daily costs,comparing actual costs with expenditure proposals and recommendingcost-effective changes
- liaise with specialistcontractors and suppliers, such as cement companies or suppliers ofdrilling fluids
- monitor safety and ensure thegood maintenance of the well
- adhere toenvironmental protection standards, in some cases through directdiscussion with local governments to ensure compliance withlegislative requirements
- establish andadminister drilling and servicecontracts
- coordinate and supervise the work ofthe drilling team
- undertake engineering designand the planning of wells (including developmentwork)
- design directional well paths(horizontally or multi-laterally, asappropriate)
- manage operations on behalf ofsmall clients
- contribute to conceptual fielddevelopment design
- work with multidisciplinaryprofessionals to evaluate the commercial viability of the well andmonitor progress during drilling
- return thesite to its natural environmental setting if drilling isn'tpursued.
