What we want


The Technical Laboratory Coordinator in the Physics unit of the Arts and Science Division at Texas A&M University at Qatar is responsible for all aspects of the undergraduate teaching laboratories to provide an effective environment for teaching under direct laboratory manager supervision.

Coordinates the visualization/air table stations in operating conditions including reporting, diagnosing and fixing main issues in the machines. Maintains safety standards throughout the teaching and support laboratories. Holds office hours for one on-one tutoring and mentoring of the undergraduate students. Coordinates daily laboratory activities, operations, instructional programs and maintenance.

Required Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree
  • Three years of related experience in laboratory operations.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Required knowledge in visual cortex setups.
  • Knowledge of computers and mainframe environments.
  • Knowledge of standard laboratory equipment.
  • Understands both the theoretical and practical aspects of the laboratory experiments.
  • Basic knowledge in Linux including coding, writing and fixing errors in scripts.
  • Ability to work with mínimal supervision; possesses excellent communication skills, capable of managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with Lenox script.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Masters in Mechanical or Electric Engineering and PHD is preferred.
  • Skilled in laboratory safety procedures

Responsibilities:

Lab Operations

  • Coordinates and organizes the Physics undergraduate teaching laboratories so that they are effectively configured to maximize the student learning environment.
  • Is responsible for quality control, routine maintenance, and inventory management of laboratory supplies and instrumentation.
  • Coordinates the maintenance of student's work stations (visualization/air table) in operating conditions, diagnoses, reports and fixes main issues. Performs troubleshooting of the visualization/air table stations including examination of electric/magnetic proves, tracking calibrations using camera's station and calibrate the CNC of each of the station.
  • Edits Linux scripts and performs optimizations of the machine conditions.
  • Oversees the inventory for the lab equipment and accessories.
  • Explains to students any difficulty or complex details of laboratory equipment or experiment procedure to be performed.
  • Performs 3D printing gadgets for the visualization/air table stations.
  • Oversees and assists students in conducting practical laboratory experiments during laboratory hours in the undergraduate teaching labs.
  • Advices students in laboratory report preparation outside of scheduled laboratory hours
  • Grades laboratory assignments and reports according to faculty prepared guidelines.
  • Ensures all TAMUQ safety protocols and standards are maintained. Oversees and/or prepares laboratory experiments, conducts course recitation and laboratory sessions, mentors' undergraduate students, grades homework assignments and lab reports, and maintains course files.
  • Supports the lab manager in the installation and upgrade of the equipment.
Mentoring

  • Supports the course instructor, including grading homework assignments, quizzes and term projects.
  • Holds problem solving sessions, and exam review sessions.
  • Maintains office hours for oneonone tutoring sessions.
  • Supervises students in practical laboratory techniques in the undergraduate labs.
  • Assists the course professors or lecturers with laboratory protocols and regulations.
  • Prepares and performs recitations, reviews, and problemsolving sessions.
