CURRENT OPPORTUNITY:


The GGGI Qatar program is seeking talented and motivated individuals to provide support in Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) project.

This opportunity is ideal for those who are passionate about addressing climate change and wish to gain valuable experience in research, analysis, and operational support related to greenhouse gases emissions and tracking the implementation of climate mitigation and adaptation actions.

The assignment will include, but is not limited to, the following tasks:

  • Work closely with the MRV project manager in the day-to-day implementation of the MRV project of the Qatar Program.
  • Assist in gathering and analyzing data and information from diverse sectors essential for the development of MRV systems.
  • Conduct research on best practices, guidelines and methodologies related to MRV systems and climate transparency.
  • Assist in reviewing, editing, and proofreading GGGI knowledge products, technical reports, training, and communication materials in line with GGGI guidelines.
  • Provide translation services covering English and Arabic.
  • Assist in communicating with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies and GHG emitters.
  • Assist in coordinating and executing stakeholder consultation workshops and capacitybuilding events.
  • Help disseminate information about project goals, progress, and achievements to relevant stakeholders.
The intern will work under the supervision of the MRV project manager.

The internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic, international environment, working on critical issues related to sustainable development.

The intern will have the chance to develop technical skills, understand the functioning of an international organization, and gain insights into the operational aspects of GGGI.


ELIGIBILITY:


  • Be enrolled in a Bachelor's (final year), Master's or PhD program prior to internship assignment, or a recent graduate within the last 12 months.
  • Be engaged or recently engaged in academic study in a field directly related to the Institute's work.
  • Must possess legal right to work in Qatar. For international applicants, a valid visa permitting work or internship in the Qatar is required.
  • Proficiency in English is essential. Knowledge of Arabic or other regional languages is highly advantageous.
  • Applicants must be available to commit to the full duration of the internship as agreed upon with the supervising staff.

QUALIFICATION:


  • Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a Bachelor's or Master's program in a relevant engineering discipline, sustainability, climate/environmental science, or a related field.
  • Prior experience in carbon management or environmental assessment of different sectors is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Understanding greenhouse gas emissions, climate change mitigation, and related environmental concepts is highly desirable.
  • Strong command of MS Excel, with demonstrated expertise in developing data collection templates, is highly desirable for this position.
  • A strong interest in environmental issues, sustainable development, and green growth initiatives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are required. Proficiency in Arabic is highly desirable, as the role involves translation tasks.

SELECTION PROCESS:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:


  • Duration: The internship program is for at least four months and up to six months. Once selected, interns must begin their internship either prior to or within 12 months of graduation.
  • Stipend: GGGI interns receive a monthly stipend of USD $500 per month (unless agreed to be funded by sponsoring institutions). All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by either the interns themselves or sponsoring institutions.
  • Visa: GGGI will provide a supporting letter for visa. Interns will be responsible for obtaining and financing the necessary visas.
  • Travel: Intern will arrange and finance their travel to the internship location.
  • Medical Insurance: Interns must present proof of valid medical insurance to GGGI upon returning the signed internship contract.
  • Confidentiality: Interns must keep confidential all unpublished information obtained during the internship and may not publish any documents based on such information.
  • Academic Credit: Interns may get academic credit from their institution of higher education for the internship. Interns need to check with their university to confirm their academic credit policy
