• The Fire Safety Officer performsregular fire safety inspections of all facilities under their care,ensuring that they meet all necessary codes and regulations. Theyalso respond to fire emergencies and arson crimes, investigatingand reporting the causes of fire and taking appropriate responsiveactions.
• In order to adhere to laws andpolicies, the Fire Safety Officer must remain up-to-date on alllocal and federal codes and regulations. They are also oftenresponsible for acquiring necessary buildings permits, so they mustremain knowledgeable of the permit procedures andrequirements.
• Maintenance is an important partof the Fire Safety Officer's job. He or she must maintainall fire safety equipment in the building, such as fireextinguishers and other fire-suppression equipment, replacingdysfunctional equipment when it cannot befixed.
• They perform preventative work onbuildings and equipment as well to reduce the need for maintenanceand replacement.
• Being the local expert in firesafety means that the Fire Safety Officer is also responsible forproviding education and training to all company and facility staffmembers. They must ensure that staff is adequately aware of firesafety code and preventative measures in order to facilitate thesafety of a building and its employees and reduceviolations.
