- Serving new and existing corporate customers for Marine & Aviation
- Manage Marine & Aviation underwriting team by monitoring their activity and efficiency
- Organize meetings with Hull & Aviation and Cargo teams separately once in 15 days to discuss outstanding departmental issues. Head of Marine & Energy will chair the meeting.
- Drive sales business outside Qatar by developing Fac Inward Business
- Develop systematic business intelligence about competitors and brokers and report to Head of Marine, Energy & Aviation
- Maintain good rapport with existing clients/brokers and identify opportunities to work with new channels
- Report to Head of Marine, Energy & Aviation on a regular basis (daily if required) about the running of the department and key accounts and issues
- UNDERWRITING: Develop underwriting skills with respect to Marine (Cargo & Hull) & Aviation classes of Insurance in coordination with line managers. Preparing and checking quotations and tenders. Ensure that the team strictly adheres to underwriting limits and guidelines as per underwriting manual and u/w authority letter.
- Business development: develop Marine portfolios of Qatar primarily and Fac Inward business outside Qatar as per the underwriting manual. Follow up on renewals/quotations and convert quotations to policies. Develop market intelligence in relation to competitors, reinsurance market and anticipate market trends, threats and opportunities in Qatar and outside Qatar. Attend meetings and prepare minutes. Coordinate and assist respective Managers in developing Hull, Aviation & Energy class of business. Visiting clients and brokers to develop business and maintain relations.
- Targets: Achieve individual target provided by Head of Marine & Aviation and achieve department targets/budget and bottom line approved by the company. Ensure customers/clients receive quality and prompt service.
- Customer service: Ensure customer gets adequate coverage and QIC is protected at all times
- Documentation: Ensure prompt issuance and dispatch of policies, debit notes and reinsurance documents
- Financial: Maintain a diary on premiums due and ensure premiums are collected from clients on time and paid to reinsurers on time
- Report & Discussion: Monthly reporting and discussion on policies due for renewal and weekly reporting on new business. Preparing portfolio analysis on quarterly basis and reporting to Head of Marine, Energy & Aviation. Prepare monthly movement report and assist in preparing annual budgets. Daily report to Head of Marine, Energy & Aviation on operational matters
- Reinsurance: Ensure QIC and QIC exposure properly and adequately protected with reinsurance and QIC exposure minimized to acceptable level per underwriting guidelines
- Others: Any other work assigned by Head of Marine, Energy & Aviation
- Recognized University Degree – Engineering/Insurance or relevant
- Ideally will also have from a recognized body, a fellow level professional qualification in insurance/actuarial work (such as ACII, FIll, Dip ClI, CIP)
- Additional years of experience could substitute for the needed level of education
- Good communication skills in English
- Computer literate - MS Words, Excel & PowerPoint
- Must be employed in the insurance business for at least 15 years in marine and aviation line of business
- 3-5 years of Team Management, managerial experience preferred
- 5 years in GCC or local and international insurance business
- Preferably with 3 years experience in managerial position
