    Our growing investment in Ubuntu now enablesus to hire a group of outstanding systems software engineers tofocus on the connectivity of Ubuntu in a wide range ofcircumstances from cloud to server to desktop and IoT We would liketo strengthen the tooling services documentation robustnesssecurity and clarity of Linux network abstractions to provide fastreliable and secure connections for Ubuntu The network stack is oneof the most critical aspects of any operating system wherestability reliability and uptime are paramount Its ease of use andreliability contribute to Ubuntus success from IoT Desktop Serverto the Cloud We are expanding our Foundations team to focus ourefforts on this essential function and are looking for peoplepassionate about lower level technologies involved in an operatingsystems network stack Applicants will be comfortable discussingbridges bonds routing DNS resolution and other technologies used tointerconnect modern operating systems Well work with a very widerange of upstream components and communities covering a wide rangeof connectivity tech We might touch the kernel iwd networkmanagerwpa supplicant bluetooth stacks conman mobile data stacks ethernetinfiniband network virtualisation capabilities VPNs and offload tosmartnics We model Ubuntu connectivity with Netplan and willcontinue to drive this forward as the easiest and most effectivecentral tool to enable connectivity everywhere The UbuntuFoundations Team delivers and maintains the core of the Ubuntusystem the base for the entire Ubuntu family of products andservices Ubuntu strives to deliver the latest and best freesoftware components in an easy to use and highly reliable form Webuild on the technical excellence of Debian and bring additionalfocus and shape to the solutions we offer industry As a LinuxSystem Engineer you will maintain and integrate core componentsinvolved in the network stack of the Ubuntu Distribution You willbe discussing design with other team members upstream projectsmentor less senior engineers and participate in code reviews anddesign reviews You will also be working with other teams to ensurearchitecture decisions improve the overall performance andexperience of Ubuntu Location The Foundations team is based in EMEAand Americas time zones from UTC 4 to UTC8 What your day will looklike Collaborate proactively with a distributed teamShapesoftwaredefine networking products for evolving data centrearchitectures to meet everincreasing bandwidth reliability securityand interoperability demandsWrite highquality welldesigned andwelldocumented softwareDebug issues and produce highquality code tofix themCollaborate proactively with a globally distributedorganisationContribute to technical documentation to make it thebest of its kindDisplay technical leadership internally towards ourpartners and in the open source communitiesInfluence opensourceprojects and communitiesShape innovative product strategies Workfrom home with global travel twice a year for company events of upto two weeks duration What we are looking for in you An exceptionalacademic track record from both high school anduniversityUndergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM or acompelling narrative about your alternative pathDrive and a trackrecord of going aboveandbeyond expectationsKnowledge of networkingarchitecture design and protocolsDeep understanding and passion forLinux networking from kernel to user spaceProfessional experiencewith computer networks including virtual networks distributedsystems as well as understanding of hardware offloadingtechnologies Interest in systemdnetworkd NetworkManagerModemManager iwd conman bluez iproute2 Open vSwitch WireGuard andsimilar software componentsFluency in at least one of Golang C CRust or PythonProfessional written and spoken English Experiencewith Linux Debian or Ubuntu preferred Interest in packagingsoftware for Debian
