    Job Purpose
    The school nurse has a multifaceted role with the school settingone that supports the physical mental emotional and social healthof students that promotes success in the learning process. It isthe breadth of nursing activities contained within the role of theschool nurse and the unique nonmedical setting that differentiatesschool nursing from other nursing specialties.
    The rolerequires effective communication and health promotion education; toencourage and maintain healthy lifestyles and a healthy schoolenvironment.
    Tomaintain good order and discipline amongst the students andsafeguard their health and safety when they are on school premisesand when they are engaged in authorized school activities offsite(in line with policy).
    Job Responsibilities
    • Administernursing care including first aid to students and staff asrequired.
    • Assume responsibility for annualhealth assessments for every child. Assessing general standard ofhealth with special attention given to any abnormality that islikely to affect the childs development or capacity tolearn.
    • Develop and offer health promotion andpreventive advice programs to the Head Nurse to ensure a healthyand safe environment for all students andstaff.
    • To act as first responder to any medicalemergencies occurring on School premises.
    • Toprovide basic medical care to students in the event of injury oracute illness whilst on school premises and allow them to return toclass as soon as possible where appropriate.
    • Toassess referrals made by teaching staff which have been escalatedusing both the relevant Triage structure and First Aid Unit (FAU)attendance policy.
    • To administer medication tostudents and staff in accordance with school policies and obtainingvalid parental consent.
    • To monitor students ownemergency / personal medication and liaise with parents inaccordance with the Management of expired emergency medicationpolicy.
    • To make necessary transportarrangements where required for a student or member of staff tosafely travel home or to an alternative care setting (i.e. GP /Hospital).
    • To maintain strict confidentialityof sensitive communications and documentation and keep an uptodaterecord of students and staff with medicalconditions.
    • To update students medical recordsadmissions or withdrawals throughout the academicyear.
    • To annually measure and record GrowthMonitoring and Visual Acuity in compliance with the Ministry ofPublic Health (MOPH) guidelines and inform parents of anyconcerns.
    • To discuss logistics with field tripcoordinators and prepare relevant first aid kits care plans andmedication as indicated.
    • To maintain a dailylog to list students who attend the first aid unit as per the QatarCouncil for Health Practitioners (QCHP).
    • Toalways work within the NMC and QCHP Code of Conduct andProfessional Conduct and Scope of ProfessionalPractice.
